62-year-old man charged with soliciting money from businesses under false pretenses in Detroit


Detroit –A Detroit A man has been charged with soliciting money from a company under false pretexts.

Michael McCombs, 62, was indicted by prosecutor Kym Worthy for illegally obtaining funds from a company.

The incident, which allegedly occurred between December 28, 2022 and January 7, 2023, claimed McCombs to be the safety officer for the Detroit Public Schools Community District.

McCombs is alleged to have used false claims to solicit charity money from several Detroit businesses.

He was arrested on Saturday (January 7) in an investigation conducted by the Detroit Police Department and charged with:

  • Public interest solicitation 1 case

  • 1 impersonation under $200

  • Three counts of impersonating a peace officer

  • 2 attempted charity solicitations

  • 2 counts of fraudulent attempts under $200

McCombs was indicted in the 36th District Court on Friday morning (January 13) and given a personal bond of $10,000.

The probable cause meeting is scheduled for January 20th at 8:30 am, and the preliminary examination is scheduled for January 27th at 8:45 am.
