BIRMINGHAM, Michigan (WXYZ) — Adults may not like to step on them, but LEGO plays a big role in every child’s life.
That’s why local companies specializing in Lego robotics and game design go one step further.
Based in Birmingham, The Robot Garage helps children around the world develop analytical thinking with home kits.
This family-owned business teaches kids engineering, coding, and robotics by letting them get creative with bricks.
The Robot Garage owner Jonathan Jacobs said:
So Jonathan and his wife rolled out these subscription-based boxes.
“They’re really great in that they can bring our classes home, where the kids have endless hours,” Jacobs said.
Launched during the pandemic, the service was meant to bring Lego to local children quickly and easily. However, the service has expanded since then.
“We had people all over the country and around the world buying these,” says Jacobs.
Brothers Milan and Howard Thomas receive a new box each month as part of their service.
Howard says building Lego helped him make sense of everyday objects.
“The grocery store door is one of the LEGO builds that slides and helped us understand how doors work,” says Howard Thomas.
Milan loves seeing robots come to life with the help of computer coding.
“If you’re coding a Lego project, trying something out, or just have to find the right thing to write down, it can help you with math because you need to find the right number,” says Milan Thomas. Told.
Milan and Howard’s parents say the box also helps their sons think analytically.
Milan and Michael Thomas and Milan and Howard’s parents said, “There’s a mechanical relationship that you have to build, so when it doesn’t work, they can solve the problem, figure out why it doesn’t work, and persevere.” I can,” he said.
Meanwhile, Milo’s mother, Amy, can’t believe her son can do anything with robotics and coding.
Milo’s mother, Amy Sweet, said, “It’s been great to see how it helps him build these skills as he grows up.
There are two types of boxes that users can subscribe to:
- Robot Academy Jr. (Grade 1-3)
- Young Engineer Workshop (4-5 years old)
- Video Game Design Workshop (Grade 3-5)
