People line up for days to get Riverview’s marijuana business license
A few tents have been set up outside City Hall in Riverview for a handful of prospective business owners who want to own one of the city’s first marijuana business licenses.
Riverview, Michigan (FOX 2) – There are stories of parents waiting nearly six hours to get their kids tickets for Taylor Swift’s upcoming tour.
Some prospective business owners are camping outside government buildings in hopes of securing one of the city’s first licenses to operate marijuana stores in their communities. There were at least five tents pitched, some of them several days in advance.

But you can definitely make money in the legal weed market.
Riverview recently amended the city’s code following a 4-3 vote to approve lifting the ban on marijuana businesses. Instead, there are new ordinances that allow the sale of recreational pots. The narrow vote was representative of the entire community, with mixed opinions on allowing the sale of legal cannabis in the city.
Despite being a young industry only in 2018 when Michigan legalized recreational sales of marijuana, the state government has become a booming market for weeds. It is considered the top three markets for cannabis jobs, after Colorado, which was the first state to legalize cannabis in the United States, and California, which has a large population gap.
Many pharmacies with locations in Michigan have had to navigate public health restrictions due to the pandemic and significant price volatility due to saturation of available stores.

After months of court submissions and review of applications, Detroit opened its first clinics this winter. Cleared the final legal hurdle December 22nd.
Those in line for a Riverview license will have their first chance to submit an application for a license when City Hall opens on Friday.
