Ozark, Missouri (KY3) – Part of a building in Ozark Square collapsed in late December, with more collapsing Friday morning.
Tish Wade owns the Heart of Grace Boutique next door. She said this is unrealistic.
“Oh my god, this can’t be true,” said Wade.
Wade said no one was inside the store when the building collapsed in late December. Firefighters said there were several people inside the coffee shop when the wall began to collapse.
“This is a coffee shop, so I’m worried about everyone who was there. They opened early,” Wade said. “It was crazy.”
Wade said he had to move everything, but the community came to his aid.
“I’m there temporarily because the Enchanted Parlor kindly donated her building,” said Wade.
Wade said they were moving across the street to another corner of the square. All the help was a dream.
It was a blessing. It was the coolest thing ever,” Wade said.
Further support may come from the Historic River District of the Ozarks, which will facilitate the growth of the historic Ozark Square.
Ozark’s Historic River District President Tim Bartholomew wants to help in any way he can.
“We are currently researching grant opportunities to support future processes that support construction and restoration, and to protect some of these old buildings here,” said Bartholomew. I got
Bartholomew said it’s hard to see now.
“It’s heartbreaking for business owners, property owners, and the community at large,” said Bartholomew.
He said he hopes the historical style will return.
“I hope it will be rebuilt, which matches the historical charm of the area,” says Bartholomew.
Wade said there are many unanswered questions.
“We love the original building. We love the building owner,” said Wade. “A lot of questions are flying around. The community has been really great.”
Wade said her temporary store could open next week.
KY3 has contacted the owner of the collapsed building, but has heard nothing yet.
A spokesperson for the city of Ozark said it would not inspect other buildings on the square after the collapse. Owners have to do it themselves.
