Wrong-way driver fleeing police destroys family’s 3 business trucks, family van

MILWAUKEE — A family on the south side near Milwaukee is suffering after four cars were damaged in a high-speed police chase involving a wrong-way driver. Business essential.

Ten-month-old Xander is unaware of the struggles his parents face.

“It’s hard because we’ve worked a lot to support our families,” said Anakaren Reija.

Xandar is one of four children belonging to Leija and Javier Malagon. Their three business trucks and family his van were damaged by a driver who drove the wrong way. Two vehicles in total. It all happened last week near his 9th and Madison in Milwaukee. The driver was being chased by police.

“My husband tried to fix it up a bit so I could get to work tomorrow morning, but it doesn’t look good,” Leija said.

The wreckage of the four cars has taken a toll on the couple’s business. Unfortunately, it’s not uncommon for drivers to drive backwards in the area.

The couple say many children in the area walk to school when drivers take the wrong direction.

A couple is sending a message to drivers: “People need to slow down.”

No car does the hard work of supporting a family. That means no bills, no rent, no money for food.

However, the couple still holds out hope. They attend Discovery Church in Oak Creek. They want reckless drivers to know that not only are they causing casualties and hurting livelihoods, but they are endangering the well-being of innocent babies.
